Nate Townsend is a Los Angeles–based writer and director drawn to character-driven stories that explore family, legacy, and finding beauty and meaning in life’s challenges and tribulations.

His work is informed by a wide range of lived experience -- from enduring profound loss early in life to experiencing the joy of building and raising a young family -- and often explores the emotional terrain between the two.

His style is shaped by his passion for dramatic cinema and a fluency in advertising, developed during his early years agency-side at DDB. That intersection has become central to his approach: sweeping, character-driven narratives, using the visual language and evolving techniques of commercial filmmaking.

His work has been featured by Ad Age, Adweek, Variety, and The Hollywood Reporter, and recognized by Cannes Lions, D&AD, The One Show, the Clios, the Shots Awards, and the AICP Awards.

In addition to directing, Nate is an accomplished photographer and was named a Face of Leica LA in 2023. He lives in Sherman Oaks with his wife, young son, and basset hound Henry.
